Our Approach proceeds along three distinct phases:
- Discovery: Defining where your leadership team is starting from and where you want to go in the future.
- Developing the Flight Plan: Choosing a leadership mentorship option that best meets your needs.
- Executing the Flight Plan: Teaching your leadership team that mentorship is an ongoing journey.
We like to begin by having series of conversations with your senior leadership team to gain insight into your organizational structure, goals and objectives – as well as help identify the key people and resources you’ll need to achieve your destination. The result of these conversations is your Origin and Destination Document.
- Origin: What are the strengths and weaknesses of your existing leadership? Who are the key members of your leadership team? What are their roles and responsibilities? How do they interact with other leadership members and what is the impact on the team?
- Destination: What levels of leadership skills do you desire your leaders to attain? What are the dependencies and resources you need to help them achieve their leadership goals?
Developing the Flight Plan:
During this phase we will help you decide what mentoring options that best fit your organization and the route we will take to help you reach your organizations leadership goals.
In this phase, decisions will be made as to the best options to overcome your leadership obstacles. These opportunities could equate to issues such as scheduling, dislocated employees, small-group dynamics, budget limitations or even the timing of inbound / outbound personnel. Each option is designed to help your team build a self-sustaining mentorship program.
Some of the mentorship options are explained below – but the options are limitless and will be tailored to your organization’s specific needs and challenges.
Becoming Well- Balanced Leader Seminar:
An initial presentation normally introduces the multiple seminars which follow. Seminars provide an interactive lecture format where attendees can respond and seek personal clarification on key leadership principles specifically designed for your team. The follow-on seminars address small-group mentoring techniques, the Becoming a Well-Balanced Leader curriculum, and how to best design your small-group pairings.
A Well-Balanced Leader Mentoring Program:
This is an ongoing program development, typically built to remain and evolve within your organization. The Mentoring Program is introduced using A Good First Step Kick-Off Introduction shown above. The Mentoring Program option trains a core of your leaders who can begin “mentoring sessions” using Unbridled Skies “Well-Balanced Leader” principles (introduced in A Good First Step).
As your team leaders mature to a level of competency your team leaders take ownership of the A Well-Balanced Leader Mentoring Program – and you then become self-sustaining. This same process will be replicated throughout your organization, placing “well-balanced leaders throughout your organization who aspire to mentor others.
Executive & Personal Coaching:
Personal one-on-one personal coaching focusing on mentoring techniques and the 10 Principles outlined in the Becoming A Well-Balanced Leader curriculum. Speaker Forum Repository (for events): We can use an array of proven-leaders who can address specific leadership and profession-related topics. Knowledge Repository: Unbridled Skies can also assist your Mentorship Program by providing timely articles by our staff and guest contributors, recommended reading programs, or one-on-one consultations (whether on demand or scheduled).
Executing Your Flight Plan:
Your journey is never over…
Contrary to our example of a flight journey to a destination, your journey never really ends. Your leadership challenge is to choose to begin a fascinating journey that never has to end.
The rewards are limitless … the journey will be tough at times. But, again, the dangers invoked by ignoring the Paul Principle are real. Since your environment is constantly changing your Mentorship program will have to Adapt/ Evolve to incorporate new skills.
It’s about constant growth and improvement to evolve with new challenges and opportunities. It’s the age-old lesson learned in the real world. The More you Learn, the Less you realize you Know. The success comes in choosing to begin the journey — not the expectation of ever achieving perfection.
